When I was a kid my Mom would make angel food cake and I loved them. I liked the cake plain, but you can put almost any frosting on it and it will taste great. This recipe takes a little time and dedication to make but it is well worth it.
Ingredients:
1 & 1/2 - cups of sugar 1 - Cup of cake flour 1/2 - teaspoon of salt 10 - egg whites (1 & 1/4 cups) 2 - Tbsp. of water 1 - Teaspoon cream of tartar 1/2 - teaspoon of vanilla 1/2 - teaspoon of almond extract 1/2 - teaspoon of sea salt
Preparation:
Sift separately the sugar (2x) and flour before measuring. Then sift 2 more times mixing the flour, sugar and salt together. In a separate bowl, put egg whites and water together and whip until it has a foamy texture. Then add the tartar and continue whipping until the mixture is stiff but not dry. Gradually add in sugar/flour, vanilla and almond a cup at a time, while continually gently whipping. When completed pour the smooth batter into an ungreased 9 inch tube pan. Preheat oven to 325 degrees and bake for about an hour or more, take a wooden toothpick and stick in cake if it comes out clean, cake is done. That's it, now you can let cake cool and slice and put icing on it or serve with fresh fruit, strawberries, blueberries, etc.
This recipe will make you a super star with your family and friends. If you like Angel Food Cake then you will love this recipe.
