This is a great recipe for fall and winter, relatively easy to make and rib sticking good. The nice thing about most of the recipes I write, you can put ingredients that you want in it to your tastes. With the cost of beef going through the roof, you can use cheaper cuts for this recipe.
Ingredients;
2 - lbs. of beef round steak 4 - tbsp. of butter 1 & 1/2 - cups chopped onion 1 - Beef stock 1/2 - teaspoon of minced garlic 1 - Teaspoon of salt, black pepper, paprika
Optional: 1 - Cup of sliced celery 6 - Medium potatoes cut into 1/4's If you go with more ingredients you need to add more stock to cover all ingredients.
Preparation:
This is perfect for a Crockpot because you can slow cook to really get the flavor of the stew. Usually cheaper cuts of meat are going to be tougher and stringy, but when you slow cook it makes it very tender. You should be able to cut with a fork. If using a Crockpot let it cook all day (6 - 8 hrs.), otherwise cook in a heavy pot on medium heat for 4 - 6 hrs.
If you want you can make egg noodles and spoon goulash on top for a very hearty and filling meal. Man, I can't wait for winter, how about you?
Hungarian beef goulash is a hearty recipe and a great meal in the winter time. If you want to try a recipe that has been passed down from the ages, this is it.
